Kuala Lumpur

The Federation of Malaysia comprises Peninsular Malaysia as well as the states of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo. Peninsular Malaysia is made up of 11 states and three Federal territories. The states of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo are also known as East Malaysia. Peninsular Malaysia  and East Malaysia are separated by the South China Sea.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia. It is also a LOOOOOONNGGG way from Nanaimo, British Columbia and Bradenton Beach, Florida. In fact, Margaret & Anne traveled 12,744 kilometres to get here, and Debra traveled 17,101 kilometers.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM KUALA LUMPUR

We arrived in the wee early morning hours on October 28 even though we had left our North American locations on October 26! It was 4:30AM when we got to the Sabahat Guesthouse (also known as the Blue House), and the streets along the way were abustle with activity. In fact, Margaret was convinced she was staying in the Red Light district... and not best pleased!

Margaret and Debra spent most of that day in bed. Anne, our Energizer Bunny, went exploring the neighbourhood and stayed up until 10PM. Anne is the experienced traveller and the only one that hasn't suffered from jet lag!

First order of business was Debra's paperwork: Anne & Debra walked... monorailed.... walked some more....took another train... and finally taxied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at The Putrajaya, 4000+ hectares of government offices on the outskirts of the city. The only "orangputehs"  (white people) in the building were in and out within 2 hours... paperwork successfully in hand!

Walking around the city, Anne was pleasantly surprised to find that her sense of direction was not as bad as she thought. As Debra didn't have a clue where they were most of the time, she made Anne feel like a million bucks!

On Day 3, armed with Anne's simple directions for the 15 minute walk to the Uruguayan consulate, Debra headed out alone for her 2nd day of paperwork... An hour later she asked a security guard if he knew where the TCB building was located... She knew she was close but when he pointed across the street, she did feel a little embarrassed.... but all is well that ends well and the paperwork was successfully completed!

While Debra roamed the city streets, Margaret and Anne walked to the bottom of  the guesthouse street to pick a place to have a foot massage. Margaret no longer cared if we were in the red light        district! The Girls thoroughly enjoyed their Reflexology... and Margaret fell in love with Akai.... who did amazing things to her feet and legs! Then heading for lunch, Margaret & Anne bumped into Debra. So we all headed to The Green Man (Irish Pub) for a great lunch... then Debra got the foot massage and Margaret got her pedicure.

One of Margaret's "few" concerns upon entering our hotel room, was the bathroom... not only didn't it have a bathtub, but you could sit on the toilet while having your shower as the room became your shower stall,,, very common in Asia... and Margaret decided then that she was going to stay dirty for the duration of the holiday. A few days later though she had concluded that the neighbourhood, the guesthouse, and our bedroom were growing on her and she was willing to try the shower.... but she needed someone to show her how it worked. Anne was out and Debra was ready for her shower so the lesson began. Before Debra knew what was happening, her mother was stripping and joined her in the shower!

These are some of our favourite highlights and believe it or not all this and much more, has taken place in a mere 3 days... can you imagine the FUN yet to come.... STAY TUNED....
